What Is Discord?

A social app for building communities around a shared interest in one or more topics.

Communities are created as “servers” with “channels” set up to direct conversation around more specific topics related to the server theme.

For TKDWN Media, this means a discord server with channels set up for all things related to the content we produce. Rankings, interviews, event info, on a national and state by state level, and even more!

The layout and user experience is a little different from Facebook but the overall result is very similar to a FB group but with more control over organizing conversations around topics and subtopics.

Is Discord Just For Gamers?

No. Not at all. It’s a platform like any other that is for anyone who knows how to make use of its tools. It offers a synergy with live-streaming platforms like Twitch that has made it a go to for Twitch streamers who are in large part gamers.

But the TKDWN Media Discord server has no connection with any other servers and has nothing to do with gaming (at least at this time, perhaps there’s a TKDWN video game in the works).

Is Discord Free?

Yes. There are ways a server owner can monetize content shared on Discord but it is free to sign up, free to join the TKDWN Media discord server, and free to access all the channels under the server.

Why A TKDWN Discord Server?

First, because it allows for more complete and better organized delivery of content than the alternatives.

Second, because the sense of “community” begins to develop there stronger than the alternatives.

Third, as the company grows, there are more roles available to assign folks to manage content channels.

Fourth, we would like to include and involve athletes, who are from a younger generation, into the community and they may be familiar with Discord as well.
